Power Semiconductors can be operated under specified conditions described in the datasheet. This correlates to the usual operation, referred to as Safe Operating Area (SOA) and the exceptional stress in short circuit, the Short-Circuit Safe Operating Area (SCSOA). Based on a real-world example, the session will explain the differences, why it is important to operate within either of these areas and prevent switching a power semiconductor in the – deadly – area in between.
